About Me

Who is Mrs. T?

Meet Mrs. T!

Mrs. Turowski is a New York State Certified Social Studies teacher in Grades 7-12. She had just started a student teaching placement in 7th grade social studies when the schools closed down due to COVID-19. She tried to make the best of the situation and do all she could to still provide education to students! This website was created to help reach parents and students outside of her school district who may not have access to quality social studies content.

In addition to an advanced certificate in Social Studies Education from the University at Buffalo Graduate School of Education, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Philosophy from SUNY Geneseo and a Juris Doctor with a concentration in Environmental Law from University at Buffalo School of Law. She is a lifelong learner who is passionate about helping others learn about history and geography.

Her historical interests include US governmental history, Central European history, WWII, and the history of technological advancements (especially the development of computers and video games).

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is that all students can learn if given a chance. I have high standards for students and expect them to meet those standards, while giving them the appropriate supports. My goal is to teach students critical thinking skills, civic engagement skills, and teach them how to be active participants in society. Many projects will have practical applications outside the classroom and will teach students how to use tools they may need to use in their future careers. I also believe students should be given choices in the content they learn. To the extent possible, students will be given an assignment where they can explore a topic in history that they are interested in.

I believe in teaching students through different modalities and will incorporate videos and other digital sources into the classroom to supplement primary source analysis. I believe in a constructivist classroom and will focus on giving student many opportunities to respond to content inside and outside the classroom. Students will learn to process information by engaging in inquiry based lessons and creating their own questions about the content learned. Finally, I care about students and their families and make every effort to connect with parents and keep them updated on their child's education in the classroom. I welcome discussions about how to help students from the people who know them best so we can work as a team to achieve the student's academic, social, and career goals.
